He received 46.9% of the vote. Vaughan Gething came second with 30.8% and Eluned Morgan third on 22.3%. Having not scored 50% or more of votes, this meant second preferences came into play. Mark Drakeford scored 53.9% of these.

Carwyn Jones will step down following First Minister's Questions on Tuesday, but remain as an Assembly Member. AMs will have to confirm a new First Minister later this week. Mark Drakeford is expected to win this nomination due to Labour's majority in the Senedd.

He has pledged to give Wales a 'future which works for the many in our society and not simply for a privileged few'.
