People who are affected by the new automatic disqualification rules can now apply for a waiver from the Charity Commission.

You can apply for a waiver to take up or remain in a trustee or a restricted senior manager position.

The law changes on 1 August 2018, but the commission is encouraging those affected to apply as soon as possible

The list of reasons for automatic disqualification currently includes bankruptcy and unspent convictions for dishonesty and deception. From August, it will also include unspent convictions for bribery, terrorism, money laundering, misconduct in public office, perjury, and being on the sex offenders register.

You can find out more about the changes and the criteria the commission will use to make a decision here

The charity Unlock, which represents people with convictions, has also published guidance (english only) on the new rules
