Welsh Government want your views on the benefits and impacts we can expect from increasing the amount of locally owned energy generation.

The Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths announced ambitious new renewable energy targets for Wales last year. These included targets to ensure Wales secures benefits from new development: 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable electricity capacity in Wales to be locally owned by 2030 and renewable energy projects to have at least an element of local ownership by 2020. She said in that statement that Welsh Government would launch a call of evidence on local ownership to help achieve these targets.

Community Energy

The aim for the Call for Evidence is to gather evidence about how increasing local ownership of renewable energy generation can secure benefits for Wales and spread this in a more equitable way. It also looks for evidence on effective ways of increasing local and shared ownership, which could inform future Government support.
