WCVA is delighted to announce that it will be distributing new funding for community and environmental projects from April 2018. Grant funding, worth £1.5 million per annum, will be available for four years, funded by the Welsh Government's Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme.

The scheme will be delivered by WCVA, in partnership with local County Voluntary Councils.

It will fund projects that support biodiversity, waste minimisation and wider environmental enhancement in areas located five miles around a landfill site or waste transfer station.

Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford said: "The Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme recognises there can be a negative impact for communities through the disposal of waste to landfill and will fund projects which aim to offset these impacts."

On being awarded the contract to deliver this funding, Ruth Marks, WCVA's Chief Executive, said: "WCVA is very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Welsh Government, our County Voluntary Council partners and communities to deliver this important scheme. We know the enormous impact that small grants can make to community projects when wisely used and we are confident that this scheme will help communities across Wales to enhance our natural environment and enjoy the wide range of well-being benefits that this brings."

Clare Sain-ley-Berry, Head of WCVA's Environet service, explained: "The natural environment offers so many benefits and is used by countless groups to help deliver a wide range of charitable objectives, from sport and recreation to befriending and integration, from confidence building and skills development to helping people cope with substance misuse or recover from trauma. This scheme will enable more targeted action for the natural environment to preserve and enhance these benefits whilst also supporting waste minimisation and helping halt and reverse the decline in our wildlife."

More details about the scheme and how to apply will be available in the coming weeks.
