National Occupational Standards, Credit & Qualifications
National Occupational Standards (NOS)
National Occupational Standards (NOS) define a framework of good practice in the way people work, based on the functions of their job or role. They describe the knowledge and skills required to carry out a specific task and are outcomes based.
NOS describe the knowledge and skills needed in order to perform to the required standard, provide a guide for developing materials for induction, training or development and serve as a useful checklist for self-assessment.
The UK Workforce Hub - the standards setting body for the voluntary and community sector - has developed sector-specific standards for fundraising, management of volunteers and trustees/management committee members.
For more information or to download the standards visit: www.ukworkforcehub.org.uk
Fundraising NOS 2008
The 2008 standards will give every fundraiser access to a resource that will help them to perform better in their role, enhance the quality of service provided to donors and, through this, address potential financial or reputational risk and build the resources available to their organisation to make a genuine difference to society.
Management of Volunteers NOS 2008
Many people in the UK are involved in the development and implementation of the volunteering strategy within their organisation. These Standards define the whole spectrum of activities required to achieve this effectively.
Trustees and management committee NOS
These standards have been designed to support individual trustees in leading and developing their organisation and sets out the competancies that trustees and management committee members need to carry out their role effectively, ensuring a consistent and quality approach to governance.
‘New’ National Occupational Standards under development
WCVA is currently involved in work to develop new standards in two specific voluntary and community sector occupations:
• Campaigning
• Development workers (those that give advice and support to frontline organisations).
The development worker standards build on the work already carried out by NAVCA’s SKiLD project. To view their Development Worker Competency Framework please visit: www.skildframework.org.uk.
If you would like to be on one of the mailing lists for this project and be notified about the completion of the standards, please email workforcehub@ukworforebub.org.uk stating in the subject field which area of work you are interested in.
