Find the answers to common queries on volunteer management. Whatever field of volunteering you are in, many of the same issues affect all volunteer managers.
This section contains a report that sets some near-future perspective for not only the third sector, but also the scale of some of the forthcoming projects and the management needs that these will entail:
‘Future events such as IYV+10 (2011 - the tenth anniversary of the 2001 International Year of Volunteers), the proposed 2011 European Year of Volunteering and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, are also expected to play a part in generating
larger numbers of volunteers.
For example, just considering the 2012 Games, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has estimated that 70,000 trained volunteers will be required. The benefits of engagement in volunteering are, however, expected to reach far beyond the Games themselves. Volunteering is seen to be an important step on the pathway to work, particularly for those furthest from the workplace.’
