Communities First areas across Wales are set to receive over £3m from the Communities First Trust Fund for 2009/2010.
Since its inception in 2002, the Communities First Trust Fund has supported over 8,800 small voluntary groups who are trying to make a difference in their community and encourage more community involvement in improving their local area.
The Fund has proved very successful and funded projects have included; local communities pulling together and arranging clean ups of their estates, intercultural events, buying much need equipment to give groups a start up boost and improving community owned facilities.
The longer term impact of the funding comprises the empowerment and encouragement of more community involvement and the restoration of community spirit, pride and ownership.
Phil Fiander, Director of Enterprise for WCVA said: “WCVA is delighted to administer further funding for the Communities First Trust Fund. The continued demand and positive impact the Trust Fund has had on the local communities, in Communities First areas across Wales, demonstrates the need for such support.”
The popular Grants scheme aimed at small local groups in Communities First areas is welcoming applications from a range of community projects including music and the arts.
Organisations wishing to apply to the Trust Fund and for further information on the Communities First programme should contact the Communities First Helpline on ?0800 587 8898.
