Communities First Trust Fund

Ever had a good idea to make your community a better place? The Communities First Trust Fund has been set up to provide quick and easy access to money to support any type of activity that involves local people, through small community organisations, taking steps to improve their local area.

Since its inception in 2002, the Trust Fund has supported activities of almost 10,000 groups including clean-ups of local estates, intercultural and community events and the purchase of equipment and community owned facilities.

Applications to the Trust Fund must be made through community groups rather than individuals, and the proposed activities must demonstrate a measure of economic, environmental, social or cultural benefit for people living in the area.

There are over 180 Communities First areas eligible for support from the Trust Fund. To find out of your area is eligible click here, or contact the Communities First Helpline on 0800 587 8898 or email help@wcva.org.uk.

The maximum a group can apply for is £5,000, although there is no minimum amount. There is a fixed amount of money allocated to each Communities First area, and applications will be assessed on a first-come first served basis.

The Trust Fund is currently open for applications and the closing date is Monday 31 January 2011. WCVA is unable to accept faxed or emailed applications and does not take any responsibility for unreceived applications.

February launch for £13m North Wales scheme

A new scheme that will support disadvantaged groups in North Wales into the workplace will be unveiled in Llandudno on Thursday 5 February.

WCVA’s Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) is a procurement scheme that will make £13m of European funds available to organisations that provide target groups with a period of supported employment.

Unlike a grant fund, the ILM will offer contracts for organisations to work with particular target groups in particular areas and deliver certain positive outcomes.

Any organisation will be able to bid for a contract through a tendering process.

Contracted organisations will be expected to deliver personal development outcomes that result in a proportion of individuals gaining full employment and / or nationally recognised qualifications.

The launch event is free to attend and designed to inform organisations about the scheme, what it can invest in, and how organisations can be involved.

The event will take place at Venue Cymru between 9.30 and 13.00 followed by lunch and networking.

To find out more or reserve a place, contact WCVA on 01745 357573 or email ILM@wcva.org.uk.

Click here to download an information sheet on the ILM. Alternatively contact the WCVA Helpdesk to request a copy on 0800 2888 329 or help@wcva.org.uk.

ILM contracts will be available to any organisation, however activities must be delivered to participants in the Convergence areas of North Wales: Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy and Denbighshire.

The ILM is funded by the Wales Assembly Government and European Structural Funds (European Social Fund).
