The GwirVol opportunities and 'Promotions' grants are now closed. Watch this space for the next round which will be announced by 1st September 2010.

The GwirVol 'International' grants are now closed. Watch this space for more information about the next round.

The grants scheme aims to prioritise opportunities with and for a diverse range of young people (aged 16 – 25), particularly:

  • Young people from disadvantaged communities: particularly Communities First areas and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities
  • Young people with physical or learning disabilities
  • Young people aged 16 – 18
  • Young people not in employment, education or training

How much was available?

·        ‘International’ : project funding of up to £30,000 to encourage international volunteering opportunities for young people who don’t traditionally volunteer. The scheme supported one-year projects funding of up to £30,000, offering a structured programme of activities that would deliver high quality international volunteering experiences for up to 30 young people aged 16-25. The GwirVol International Youth Volunteering Grants scheme supported up to 80% of total project costs.

·        ‘Opportunities’: project funding of up to £10,000 for activities to deliver a wide range of new and innovative volunteering experiences for young people aged 16-25, either with your own group or another organisation.

·        ‘Promotion’: project funding of up to £5,000 to promote volunteering to and for young people aged 16-25 – for instance, through promotional events, websites, exhibitions or visits.

You must be able to give a clear description of how you will approach and attract young people; particularly those that are disadvantaged or excluded; how you will measure success and how you will spend the money.

All projects must be completed and accounted for by 31 March 2012. Any funding not spent by that date must be repaid.
