European Policy

WCVA Europe represents and informs the voluntary and community sector on a range of policy issues related to Europe.

Open report

This includes the key European policy themes of Social Inclusion and Equal Opportunities, ensuring that the voice of the voluntary sector is in the governance of the Union, and the implications of European enlargement including trans-national projects.

Civil Society is a term increasingly used by the European Union to describe those organisations, groups and networks through which people voluntarily work together to advance their common interests. It encompasses the huge range of organised activity outside the public or private sector. It is also a concept which WCVA has embraced in its new programme - "Civil Society, Civil Space" (the WCVA manifesto in advance of the 2003 National Assembly Elections).

Work surrounding social inclusion at the EU level is clearly in its early stages.

WCVA Europe works with a number of partners including the Welsh Assembly Government, the Welsh European Funding Office, and the European Commission.
