"It’s not a quick fix developing an asset; it’s hard work. Developing a business plan is just the start; making it happen, that’s the difficult bit." - Kelvin Jones, Chief Executive Officer Gorseinon Development Trust
It is increasingly becoming recognised that the community management and ownership of assets can create vibrant and sustainable communities but asset based development might not be for everyone.
It is not just about the process of developing an asset; it is also concerned with managing the asset on a day-to-day basis and developing it to generate sufficient income to become sustainable.
This course will provide an overview of what is meant by asset based development and how property or land can be used to assist voluntary and community organisations in achieving financial sustainability.
Participants will be provided with information on the different types of assets and the various issues to be considered when developing, managing and maintaining an asset.
A case study presentation by an exemplar organisation will offer a practical insight into the successes and struggles involved in developing and running a community asset.
Participants will also be provided with details of financial packages for securing and developing assets and understanding the opportunities and funding for community asset transfer.
