This course is an amalgamation of elements of two previous courses. It is an introductory course aimed at people who want to understand how to have their voice heard by local and national decision-makers. Having your voice heard is about knowing how to talk to the right people, about the right issues in the right way.
The first part of the course will explain how political structures and processes fit together in Wales, what different levels of government exist, what issues they cover, who does what and what powers lie in Wales. Once the participants understand who to approach for which issues the course will move on to an introduction to effective campaigning. It will look at the key features of how to plan a campaign and will give an opportunity, through case studies, for participants to practice their new skills.
Learning objectives:
- understanding of how Welsh political structures and processes work;
- understanding of which issues are dealt with at a local, national, UK and European level;
- understanding of how to plan a campaign;
- greater awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of different campaign methods
